Everything flew by – I had other plans but a phone call changed them completely. Within one week I left my life in Ireland to start a new adventure in Mexico, with a short stop of four days in Spain to say Hi and See you soon to all my loved ones.
I was not fully aware of what was happening to me until I was on the plane. I was so excited that I could only think about all things that I wanted to do in this country. I was going to fulfill myself the dream of making a volunteering experience, and especially in Latinamerica that I have always been very interested in.
From the moment I arrived I felt at home – the people were treating me friendly and warmheartedly; the city of Puebla was so exotic for me! Everything seemed enchanted to me and I could not stop myself from being surprised by everything new I got to know.
My first days in the project were a little confused since I did not know how to act. But very soon the girls trusted me and won all my affection, which made everything easier.
Even though I experience differences between my behaviour and the one in Casa Hogar and some of their actions are controversial for me, my joy of working and helping in everything that I can just keep growing.
After a month here I can only say that it is necessary to live an experience like this at least once, to enrich yourself as a person, to value and appreciate every little detail of what you are living, to eliminate prejudices, get to know different points of view and learn.
